ADA Signage

Wayfinding that moves
people, compliantly.

Directories, arrows, overhead signs, and flag mounts that get visitors where they're going. No Braille required on directional signage — but character height, contrast, and mounting rules still decide whether it passes.

The Rules
02

Compliance, handled.

What the 2010 ADA Standards and your local code require for this sign type — checked on every proof before anything gets cut.

01
No Braille Needed
Directional and informational signs don’t require tactile characters or Braille — that’s reserved for signs identifying permanent rooms. Big cost difference; know which is which.
02
Size by Distance
Visual character height is set by viewing distance and mounting height — from 5/8" up close to 3"+ across a lobby. We size from your floor plan, not guesswork.
03
Overhead Rules
Overhead signs need 80" clearance and 2" minimum characters. Wall, flag, and ceiling mounts each have their own rules — all in our proofs.
04
One Sign System
Directories, directionals, and room IDs should read as one family — same colors, type, and logic. We design the system once and every sign after matches.

01
Foam Tape & VHB
Double-faced foam or 3M VHB tape with silicone adhesive — the standard, damage-free install for most walls.
02
Screw Mount
Torx screw holes with optional vandal-resistant hardware for high-traffic and abuse-prone locations.
03
Standoffs
Satin aluminum standoffs float the sign off the wall — the upscale look for lobbies and suites.
04
Magnetic
Magnetic backing for steel surfaces and changeable panel systems — reposition without repainting.
FAQ
04

Common questions.

Do directional signs need Braille?

No. Braille and raised characters are required on signs that identify permanent rooms and spaces. Signs that point toward rooms — arrows, directories, overhead wayfinding — only need to meet visual rules: character size for the viewing distance, contrast, and non-glare finish.

How big do the letters need to be?

It depends on how far away people read the sign and how high it's mounted. A sign read from 6 feet can use 5/8" characters; an overhead sign read across a lobby needs 2" or more. Send the floor plan and mounting locations and we'll size every sign correctly.

Can you match our existing wayfinding?

Usually. Send photos and measurements of the current system and we'll match colors, layout, and typography as closely as the materials allow — or propose a refresh that keeps the same visual logic.
